3 HAIRSTYLES TO

TRY THIS JANUARY

SWITCH UP YOUR LOOK ALL MONTH LONG

Ready for some new-year inspiration? We’re excited to kick off 2021 with fresh hairstyles for all hair types from our very own Global Educator, Bea Carmichael. Bea is sharing 3 of her favorite looks for January, along with step-by-step guides and her go-to vegan products to achieve each one.

Bea’s ultimate styling picks

In order to create each of these hairstyles at home, Bea recommends using some of our most-loved vegan hair products.

First up is our nutriplenish leave-in conditioner. This lightweight spray is a must for adding a boost of hydration any time, but especially during the winter months. 98% naturally derived,* it delivers nutrient-powered hair hydration to restore and replenish moisture for up to 72 hours. Plus it helps protect against heat damage up to 450 degrees.

Next, is our air control light hold hair spray, a must for any hair care collection. With a flexible lasting hold, this tool is ideal for prepping or perfecting endless hairstyles.

To build body and create maximum volume for fine to medium hair, Bea chooses our volumizing tonic. When she’s looking to instantly thicken hair, she prefers our thickening tonic. Powered by certified organic amla fruit, it helps expand strands from roots to ends.

You can also add weightless volume to hair with our phomollient styling foam. It uses air-infused technology to transform a liquid into a foam for a light to medium hold.

Another foam product Bea recommends is our foam reset rinseless hydrating hair cleanser. A magical multi-tasker, this leave-in product not only cleanses and hydrates hair, but tames frizz and refreshes the scalp. 97% naturally derived,* it’s perfect for reviving extensions, braids and weaves.

3 ways to shake up your look for 2021

Bea tells us that for the new year, trying the latest hairstyles can be easy. “It doesn’t have to be hard to change up your look,” she says. “Sometimes it’s just about adding accessories for a bit of glamour or changing your part for a little drama.” Discover her latest ideas for long hairstyles and short hairstyles below.

VOLUMIZED CURLS WITH CLIPS

Perfect for: all hair types of fine, medium or thick hair, medium to long in length

1) Cleanse and condition your hair with your preferred nutriplenish shampoo and conditioner.

2) Next generously apply nutriplenish leave-in conditioner all over your hair to saturate it with moisture.

3) Spray volumizing tonic directly at your roots and massage gently to work in.

4) Rake through your hair using your fingers as a comb. For looser curl patterns, use the aveda wooden paddle brush to carefully and vertically brush through hair.

5) Divide hair into sections. Clip the top half out of the way, and apply nutriplenish multi-use hair oil throughout each section.

6) Use a soft towel (or an old t-shirt) to squeeze out excess moisture. As you squeeze, encourage your hair’s natural movement. Remember to squeeze, instead of scrunch.

7) Air-dry hair naturally or heat-style using a diffuser attachment on your hair dryer, set to the lowest speed and medium heat. Take one section of hair and cup the entire length into the diffuser, including the roots. Repeat with the remaining sections of hair. Flip your head forward as you dry for added volume.

8) Use hair clips or accessories to line your hairline just above the forehead on both sides of your part for extra glamour.

SIDE TWIST

Perfect for: all hair types of fine, medium or thick hair, medium to long in length

1) Start with dry hair. Depending on your hair’s density, dispense 2 to 3 pumps of foam reset rinseless hydrating hair cleanser into the palm of your hands. Apply throughout your hair, from roots to ends. Comb or brush through to evenly distribute the product.

2) Next, dispense 2 to 3 pumps of phomollient styling foam into your hand. Apply evenly to hair with fingers, and blow dry until completely dry.

3) If you want to add movement to your hair once dry, curl with a curling iron or flat iron.

4) Create a deep side part on either side of your head.

5) For this step, you will need a pintail comb (or a pen or pencil). From the back of your side part, use the pintail comb to separate a section of hair as you move the comb forward toward the top of your ear, opposite the side part. This should create a triangle-shaped section, on the top of your head.

6) Brush or comb that section forward as though you were going to create a ‘90s-style ponytail at the front of your head. This ponytail section should be on the opposite side of your part, at the front hairline.

7) Take the point of the pintail comb and place it flat to the head, behind the hand you’re holding this ponytail with. Make sure the comb stays flat. Now twist this section of your hair back, and wrap it over the pintail comb until you reach the end of the comb. This will form a twist that wraps from the side part over to the other side of your head. (See photo to the left for a visual reference.)

8) Hold this twisted section of hair, now fully wrapped around the comb, and gently slide out the comb. Secure the twist with a small elastic, and add a fun hair clip if you’d like.

TWISTED BUN WITH RIBBON

Perfect for: all hair types of fine, medium or thick hair, medium to long in length

1) Shampoo and condition your hair with your preferred nutriplenish shampoo and conditioner.

2) Prep your hair with thickening tonic by spraying mid-lengths to ends and combing through.

3) Blow dry hair away from the face, and smooth with your brush until completely dry.

4) Create a sleek ponytail at the nape of your neck and secure with an elastic.

5) Next, tie a long piece of ribbon or scarf around the elastic, and leave the length of the ribbon to hang down either side of the ponytail.

6) Spray the ponytail with air control light hold hair spray and twist the ponytail until it starts to twist back on itself. This should transform the ponytail into a twisted, rounded bun-shape. Bring the end of the ponytail up to the base of the ponytail and secure with an elastic.

7) Lastly, take the ribbon and tie it at the base of your ponytail. Let the very ends of your hair splay out for a more casual feel. Spray with air control to keep it all in place.
