4 beauty looks that will NEVER go out of style

Get your brushes ready.

We’re in an era of real time information coming our way from all sources 24/7: Breaking News, Trend Alerts, Instagram Stories on loop, Status Updates and notifications to check our Twitter feeds. We’re informed and entertained as we’re glued to our smart phones and things are constantly changing. There’s a lot going on, and we’ve got a feeling this rapid-fire change isn’t going to stop anytime soon. In the beauty world, fads and trends come and go at a lightning pace, which can be overwhelming. We feel you. So let’s take a breather from “of the moment” beauty trends and ground ourselves in things that will never go out of style. These absolutely classic beauty looks are relevant and timeless.

Global Artistic Director for Makeup Janell Geason has seen her fair share of flash-in-the-pan beauty trends, but she thinks these four classics have serious staying (is this supposed to be staying power?) power: the “no makeup makeup” look, glossy lids and lips, a ‘50s-inspired cat eye and graphic red lip and the smoky, “soft glam” eye and neutral lip. Try one or try them all using some of Janell’s favorite Aveda makeup products — use our beautiful model, Elle, as your guide!

LOOK 1: NO MAKEUP MAKEUP

Simple, natural beauty is always in. Think dewy, flawless skin with a subtle contour, lightly defined eyes and a pretty, low-key neutral lip. To get this look, Janell prepped the skin with Inner Light Tinted Moisturizer and concealed where necessary. Using the brow brush, she lightly fluffed up the brows, then added a touch of Mosscara in black to define lashes. Cheeks were lightly contoured with Dual Foundation in one shade darker than Elle’s skin tone, and the finishing touch came courtesy of Feed My Lips lipstick in Honey Ginger.

LOOK 2: SUPER GLOSSY LIPS AND SKIN

This shiny look is majorly eye-catching. Using the perfected skin from Look 1 as her canvas, Janell gave Elle’s lips extra gleam with Nourish-mint Rehydrating Lip Glaze. If you want a deeper color on your lips, begin with a base of Feed My Lips lipstick in your chosen shade, then apply the gloss on top. The finishing touch? A bit of gorgeous gleam on cheeks thanks to Tulasāra Radiant Oleation Oil.  It’s simple, but totally statement-making.

LOOK 3: THE CLASSIC CAT EYE

Look at you, movie star! There’s nothing more glamorous than a cat eye and bright red lip. After prepping and perfecting skin, Janell defined brows with a bit of Petal Essence Eye Color Trio in Gobi Sands (use the darkest shade!) and applied a classic cat eye with Petal Essence Eye Definer in Black Orchid. If you’d rather do a liquid liner, try using black Mosscara with the liner brush, then load lashes with extra mascara for a fluttery look. A cat eye may take a few tries, so just remember that slow and steady wins the race! Once you’ve mastered your eye look, line your lips with Feed My Lips lip liner in Pomegranate, an intense true red, and fill them in completely to give lips a vibrant, long-lasting base. Then, apply Feed My Lips lipstick in Jujube, a classic cherry red, for an iconic screen siren red lip.

LOOK 4: THE SOFT GLAM SMOKY EYE

Nothing screams “glamour!” more than a smoky eye. Janell used both Copper Haze and Black Orchid eye trios to shape this romantic eyeshadow look. To create a cut crease, begin by applying a light shade to the entire lid, then applying a deep shadow slightly above your natural eye crease. Make sure to blend, blend, blend to keep the eyes looking soft. Add black liner and mascara, then apply your favorite neutral shade of Feed My Lips to keep lips looking kissable. Hello, date night!
